YUPIA, Oct 27:Taking note of allegations directed towards the Papum Pare DC office on social media for issuing Scheduled Tribe (ST) certificate to a Chakma individual as seen in the list of approved candidates for the APPSC Preliminary examination, the Deputy Commissioner today refuted the claims and termed it unacceptable and uncalled for.

‘It is better for the union to establish the facts from the concern authority before going to the press hurriedly,’ said DC Papum Pare, Tai Kaye in an official release clarifying that no ST certificate was issued from the DC office Yupia.

The DC also verified the matter at Chakma villages on Friday afternoon.

During this it was established that Sameer Chakma, 21, son of Shanti Chakma, Block No.8 of Chakma settlement area, PO Sonajuli, PS Banderdewa did not even try to obtain an ST certificate from the DC office, Yupia.

The DC further informed that he (Sameer) had passed Class-VI from Govt ME School Kokila (Arunachal Pradesh) and completed his graduation from Bhareli, Uttar Pradesh under the patronage of Ullhas Kulkarni an RSS activist from Guwahati on humanitarian ground. Kaye also reiterated that Chakmas are Scheduled Tribe (ST) in other states under Sixth Schedule of ST Act and possession of ST certificate from the Government of Arunachal Pradesh does not arise.
