PANGIN, May 18:A public meeting was convened today at Pangin in connection with construction of Bille-Migging road under Payum Circle in Siang District under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Rahul Singh which was also attended by representative of NHIDCL and public of several villages under the circle. The meeting was held to sort out the discord between various parties on the issue of realignment-new site selection for the road.

Addressing the gathering, the DC urged on finding out an amicable solution to settle the discord. Dwelling on the plight of the people from the area who have been deprived of much needed development due to absence of roads in these strategically located border villages and have to travel 40-50 kms all the way to Kaying to avail even basic utility services in vital sectors like health, education etc, he sought cooperation from all in expediting road construction activities and facilitating connectivity to these remote areas in the quickest possible time while urging them not to create any hindrance in the path of development for the larger interest of the area and its people.

Assuring that construction of road would be strictly as per survey, he also warned of strict action against anybody obstructing development.

He sought details about the project from the OC (GREF) including details about the various phases, progress achieved till date, the targeted completion date and further sought clarification regarding delay in project completion and reasons for it including reasons for any modification in the proposed alignment.

Various parties, representatives and individuals from villages under Payum Circle presented their viewpoints and voiced their apprehensions and grievances. All parties acknowledged that connectivity at the earliest to these far flung villages was the need of the hour and assured their cooperation in achieving this.

The OC (GREF) gave an overview of the project including details about its sanction, physical and financial progress achieved till date and reasons for any modification or delay.

After elaborate discussion and deliberation it was decided that a completely neutral, technical and apolitical committee would be formed to study the whole issue. This committee will visit the concerned villages, conduct public hearing and submit a report within 15 days time. All interested individuals could contribute technical suggestions. Focus of the study would be to construct the road in the shortest possible time and in such a manner that every single person should reap the benefits of the road.
