Itanagar, Feb 28: A virtual meeting in connection with the opening of bank accounts for students of various government schools in the capital was convened by the Deputy Commissioner Capital Itanagar Talo Potom with the
DDSE ST Zara, school heads, bank representatives including EACs Datum Gadi and Takam Nicholas.
The DC expressed displeasure on the low percentage of bank account holders amongst students. He said that the state capital having the most numbers of banks, the percentage should be 100% .
He urged all to ensure that every student has a bank account and to work on the lacunae if any. Potom also asked them to submit the total number of pending forms of students along with the list of banks in respect of each school to his office.
The DC informed that apart from State Bank of India, other banks too offer the service and asked them to explore the options as per their convenience. He also asked the banks to cooperate with the parents/ students and to prioritise their cases when they come to open their accounts.
Opening of accounts of students below 18 years require a joint account to be created with their parents and in most cases in the capital, parents live at far off places and hence they are not available for the same, the house was informed.
Soibam Ranjit Singh, Manager, Lead Bank said that banks may be segregated and assigned to schools for faster delivery of services.
