BOMDILA, Oct 17:Chairing the review meeting of the District Level Steering cum Monitoring Committee (DLSMC) of Mid Day Meal (MDM) scheme for 2017-18 today at district headquarters Bomdila, Deputy Commissioner Sonal Swaroop called for collective and sincere efforts by the line departments to make the MDM a real success story.

‘The efforts by the officers of the education department alone cannot make MDM a reality,’ she said. Various factors contribute to the success of the project, she added.

Assuring to facilitate potable drinking water to the schools in the district, the DC batted for early release of the central and state share, enhancement of the honorarium of the Cook cum Helper, refurbishment of kitchen devices, construction of kitchen sheds etc.

She observed that the meager payment to the Cook cum Helper was also an impediment to the successful implementation of the MDM. The honoraria of Rupees Thousand only is very low compounded with the non-release of the Centre and state share in time, the DC said.

DC Sonal also impressed upon opening of Current Account for DBT under Public Finance Management System and compulsory registration under Automated Monitoring System (AMS) for better monitoring and implementation of the programme.

Opining that West Kameng has performed exceptionally well as compared to other districts in the state, State Nodal Officer (MDM) Tani Talom called for co-operation from the line departments, the SMCs and the PRI members for effective implementation of the MDM. The credit goes to the district administration for effective monitoring and implementation of the MDM, he added.

However, he rued that the participation of the MPs and MLAs would have gone a long way in the successful implementation of the scheme by understanding the basic problems and making the necessary legislations.

Earlier, DPC (MDM) Bomdila L Chhudup elaborated on the status of the MDM in the district and also highlighted on the various grievances and impediments in effective implementation of the Mid Day Meal in the district.

Among others, state Co-ordinator Tsering Phuntso, DDSE DW Kharma and Kalaktang ZPM Tashi Norbu Kharma also participated in the deliberations.
