KHONSA, Aug 22:Taking serious note of ever-increasing youths taking to alcoholism, Deputy Commissioner Tirap, PN Thungon ordered for sporadic raids to contain this menace.

The team of Magistrates led by Hakresha Kri, EAC (Judicial) and Lim Modi, Town Magistrate accompanied by security personnel raided shops and hotels which are suspected to be selling IMFL without proper License. Huge quantity of beer/IMFL were recovered which was later destroyed in presence of Magistrates.

During the raids, in one of the shops, 10 bags of PDS rice was seized. The rice meant for the poor villagers was being outsourced in the open market at higher cost.

Taking serious note, Thungon directed the DF&CSO to look into the matter and warned that such pilferage if done in connivance with the Fair Price Shop owners and businessmen stringent action will be initiated against all involved.

Further, the DC suggested DF&CSO and support team to keep vigil on all FPS and to monitor them routinely to avoid illegal siphoning of essential commodities meant for the poor consumers.
