ITANAGAR, Apr 23:  Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee today alleged the BJP led state government as anti- people over its failure to announce the Panchayat elections. In this connection, the Arunachal Pradesh Youth Congress has also initiated a signature campaign ‘We the People’ pressing for conduct of Panchayat elections before the terms of incumbent Panchayat leaders expires, which was officially launched by APCC President Takam Sanjoy.

Addressing the media at Rajiv Bhawan, Sanjoy opined that failure of the BJP led state government to conduct Panchayat election may result in constitutional crisis in the state.

Youth Congress will collect signatures of people from various villages and submit it to the Governor for his consent for conduct of Panchayat elections, he asserted.

‘The ruling BJP government is anti- people and they formed the government by hijacking Congress leaders but why they are now sabotaging the Panchayat election,’ slammed Sanjay.

While demanding the government to come clear on the issue, APCC further alleged that amendment of the present three-tier Panchayati Raj System to two-tier is a lame excuse.

Also slamming the state government, APYC President Geli Ete informed that despite repeated pleas to the state government for timely conduct of Panchayat elections, the government has failed to respond on the issue. “We will voluntarily  urge people to join  the campaign and after collecting signatures from  every citizen of the state, we will  submit it to the governor to show that the people of this state are being misguided by the incumbent BJP government.”
