ITANAGAR, Jan 10: Deputy Chief Minister, Chowna Mein pitched to rope in private investment in agriculture and allied sectors in the State as agriculture is the mainstay of economy for the people of the State.

Asserting that through agriculture and allied sectors, the GDP growth of the State can be enhanced, he called for optimum use of land to increase farmer’s income.

He was speaking to the Officers of Agriculture, Horticulture, Veterinary, Fishery, Handloom & Handicraft and Sericulture Departments in a meeting convened by the Chief Secretary to chalk out plan to conduct a conclave on  resurgence of organic agriculture and allied sectors in the State in the month of March at the CS Conference hall today.

Appreciating the initiative of the Chief Secretary, he said that such conclave helps us to draw a road map for development of the State with a future plan in realistic terms. He further said that research and development should go together and efforts have to be made to bring in revolution in Dairy and Fishery to enhance farmer’s income.

 Chief Secretary, Satya Gopal emphasized on simplistic organic farming and to draw an action points to bring in 5 lakh hectares of land into organic farming in the next 5 to 10 years.  He said that the motto of the conclave should be to draw a practical road map and guidelines for the departments and not just the presentations of theoretical and academic papers. It should specifically aim to bring in resurgence to organic agriculture & allied sectors for next 5 to 10 years, he added.

Secretary to Chief Minister, Sonam Chombay informed that the conclave is the follow up of the “Dream Change – Arunachal 2027” Conclave that was held in December 8 & 9 last with a more focussed approach in agriculture and allied sectors. He also informed that the experts will be invited in advance to the state which will enable them conduct some field visits and study the samples collected from the fields. On the basis of their finding and study of the samples, they will be asked to suggest measures on how to go about it on the ground.

GM NABARD, Regional Office Itanagar, Dr Gyanendra Mani highlighted the subjective and objectives of the conclave and lists of the subject experts that will be invited for deliberations from the national level.

 A Conclave Secretariat under the chairmanship of Secretary (Home, Political, Transport, Animal Husbandry, etc), G S Meena was formed in the meeting.

Among others, Y W Ringu, Secretary (Finance & Agriculture) and Senior Officers of Agriculture, Horticulture, Veterinary, Fishery, Handloom & Handicraft and Sericulture Departments attended the meeting.
