YINGKIONG, Jul 5: Road to Yingkiong has been reopened by Border Roads Organization (BRO) after brief closure for four hours due to an active landslide at Km 95.
Due to heavy and incessant rainfall in the region, the slide point at km 95 on Panging-Yingkiong road got activated on June 30 last and the road communication to Yingkiong was cut-off. The mud slide continued for 2 hours with complete hill face rolling down the slope and the formation of the road was breached for over 50 mtr length. The personnel of BRO immediately swung into action after mud slide came to a halt and with the help of dozer D-80 and a tracked excavator cleared the massive slide by 10 AM. “The prepositioning of equipment helped clear the slide in the fastest possible manner” – said SK Pradhan, Commander of 761 BRTF who coordinated the efforts on ground. The road has been thrown open to traffic. He further added that as many as 8 dozers and 8 JS-80s have been positioned by 1448 BCC & 105 RCC (GREF), units responsible for road maintenance, along the 280 km long road from Pangin to Tuting as a part of monsoon-deployment to ensure minimum inconvenience to road users during rain- induced road closures.
