SEIJOSA, Jan 18:Chief Minister Pema Khandu announced that ‘Pakke Paga festival’ would be celebrated as state festival assuring that it will be announced in the coming budget session.

He said this while taking part in the 3rd edition of the Pakke Paga festival as Chief Guest here today.

Khandu said organizing such festival would not only help conserve the rich biodiversity of the state, but also spread awareness in conserving nature.

To professionally manage the festival, he assured to fund for a festival ground this year and for necessary infrastructure such as traditional huts, he suggested that it could be built giving traditional touch.

He said the Pakke Paga festival, which is the only festival in Arunachal dedicated to conservation of nature could attract tourists from abroad and the country in great numbers, if provided with professional touch.

The Chief Minister lauded the conservation zeal of the local communities and the forest department that gave birth to such festival. He also appreciated the community ban on hunting activity.

In a boost to the conservation effort in preservation of Hornbill, Khandu announced to adopt and sponsor 10 Hornbill nests. Earlier the Chief Minister gave away certificates and memento to most hardworking nest protectors who were selected among the locals involved in monitoring Hornbill nests. He also gave away a cheque of Rs 18000 for Nest Adoption Programme to Nature Conservation Foundation, Mysore.

He further thanked the people for their mandate to local BJP candidate Biyuram Wahge for electing him as the MLA and announced to create a new district of Pakke Kessang within this year. He promised to pay a visit again here to lay the foundation stone for the new district by December 2018.

The Chief Minister appealed the people to work as a team rising above their political differences in the greater interest of the constituency and the state.

For the development requirement of the constituency as committed earlier, Khandu announced to release the first quarter soon and assured to follow up with MoS Home Kiren Rijiju for another two quarters.
