ITANAGAR, Jan 30: State Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (SIRD&PR), Director, Habung Lampung said that vermicomposting can be a game changer for urban areas and reduce garbage load and urged citizens to adopt the practice. He was speaking at the opening of a three-day State Level Training Programme on Vermicomposting.
Addressing the training, the Director said that vermicomposting can be a game changer to fulfill the basic vegetable requirement of every household especially in urban areas where space for vegetable gardening is less. He further added that vermicomposting, if adopted by every household in the city helps in reducing garbage for municipal waste collectors. Lampung urged the participants consisting of Panchayat Members, Self Help Groups and progressive farmers to encourage vermicomposting in every village and colony. He requested the participants, faculties and SIRD&PR, Resource Persons to create a small vermicomposting area in the SIRD&PR complex as a model for future demonstration.
Various topics like vermicompost production and management, field demonstration and marketing strategy etc., are being imparted by the resource persons like Dr. Wishfully Mylliem, Scientist GBPNIHE, NERC, Dr. Pema Khandu Goiba SMS, Soil Science, KVK Yachuli, Punam Bagang, Astt. Professor, Entomology, RGU, Lony Singpho, BC, ArSRLM.
Forty participants comprising PR members, SHG and progressive farmers are attending the training.
Earlier, Course Director, Dr. Mihin Lali apprised about the objectives of the training and course contents. Dr. Narayan Sahoo, Sr. Faculty cum Dy. Director (PR&DP) gave the vote of thanks.
