ITANAGAR, Jan 27: In a positive outcome of efforts by Indian Army along with all government agencies, Chinese People's Liberation Army today handed over Miram Taron, the missing youth from Arunachal Pradesh at Damai, Border Personnel Meeting Point, across Anjaw District.
The 17-year-old teenager, Miram Taron from Upper Siang District of Arunachal Pradesh had inadvertently strayed and went missing recently while hunting on January 18. Indian Army immediately approached PLA on hotline to trace and secure safe return of the boy and shared identity details of the youth with PLA. On January 26, PLA confirmed that Taron would be handed back to Indian Army at Damai Border Personnel Meeting Point on January 27.
Subsequently today the Indian Army took over Miram Taron at Border Personnel Meeting point at Damai across Kibithu Sector in Lohit District after completing all the formalities. He is being handed over to his parents at the earliest.
Miram Taron is in high spirits and is elated to be back in his country. He and his family expressed gratitude for the sincere efforts by Indian Army and the government to ensure his safe return, the Army's public relations office, Tezpur said.
Indian Army thanked China’s PLA for upholding the Border Defence Cooperation Agreements between the two countries, leading to return of the Indian teenager, furthering maintenance of peace and tranquility. Indian Army true to its ethos remains committed to work tirelessly for the well being of the people of North East and the entire nation.
Law Minister Kiren Rijiju in a tweet said due procedures are being followed including the boy's medical examination.
"The Chinese PLA has handed over the young boy from Arunachal Pradesh Miram Taron to Indian Army. Due procedures are being followed including the medical examination," he wrote.
In another tweet later, he thanked the Army for pursuing the case meticulously with PLA and safely securing the youth.
Rijiju also shared pictures of armymen and the teenager dressed in personal protective equipment to prevent Covid infection.
"I thank our proud Indian Army for pursuing the case meticulously with PLA and safely securing our young boy back home," he said.
On January 19, BJP MP from Arunachal Pradesh, Tapir Gao, brought to light the abduction of Taron.
