PASIGHAT, Aug 21: The All India Coordinated Research Project on Weed Management Pasighat Centre observed Parthenium Awareness campaign on August 19 last in collaboration with the National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit of College of Horticulture and Forestry, Central Agricultural University, Pasighat and Krishi Vigyan Kendra, East Siang District Pasighat.

Earlier Dr Dinesh Sah, Principal Investigator, AICRP Weed Management delivered a lecture on Parthenium eradication and stressed the importance of eradicating parthenium weed. He also informed about introduction of weed in India, its biology, propagation and dispersal and status in the country. Parthenium is an alien weed and it was introduced in India from USA during sixties.  It causes menace in agricultural and non-cropped area as well as to human health, environment and biodiversity. 

NSS volunteers joined the mass eradication of parthenium form the roadside of Ranaghat area.  Senior scientist and Head KVK East Siang Dr Mahesh Pathak also joined the programme and he appreciated the work of volunteers.

The event was held on behalf of  Directorate of  Weed Research (ICAR), Jabalpur and “Department of  NRM” CHF, CAU, Pasighat.
