AALO, Apr 5:While attending the golden jubilee celebration of Mopin at Kamba, Minister of State for Home, Kiren Rijiju stated that may be the light of development and education came late in this part of the country, but our tribal people have maintained and kept alive the age old culture and traditions.

“We need to keep up the tempo of celebrating it in the best possible way every year as it is festivals which connects us to our roots,” he asserted.

Speaking on developmental front, Rijiju stated that the Centre and state is now working together to fulfill the aspirations of the people and informed about the efforts put in by both to connect East, West and Upper Subansiri district with national highways. He disclosed that already an amount of Rs. 32 crore has been sanctioned for Kambu Bridge and to improve connectivity to Sesi Likar village.

Parliamentary Secretary RWD, Jambey Tashi, and Special Guest KY Waii, wife of Minister Home, MLA Liromoba, Nyamar Karbak also spoke on the occasion. The President GJCCK, Er Deli Kambu, Secretary Karmin Kamki and Geli Nosi delivered speeches on the significance and mythological aspects of Mopin.  

Later Rijiju also released an audio album, and unveiled the Golden Jubilee Mopin Commemoration Pillar, Lot Lomen. Thousands thronged the general ground Kamba on the festive occasion today.

Elsewhere, Mopin festival of the Galos was celebrated in a grand manner in Bomdila with pomp and gaiety.

MLA cum Advisor to CM, Japu Deru, DC West Kameng Dr. Sonal Swaroop, and SSP Bomdila PN Khrimey, graced the occasion as Chief Guest, Guest of Honour and Special Guest respectively.

While conveying Mopin greetings the dignitaries also lauded the members of the Galo community for maintaining their rich cultural traditions. They also expressed hope that celebration of traditional festivals such as Mopin would not only be a platform to showcase ones traditional heritage but also go a long way in fostering the message of communal harmony and peaceful coexistence.
