GUWAHATI, Sep 15: After four successful editions, the 5th edition of Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival got underway at Pragjyoti ITA Centre, Machkhowa, Guwahati.

On the opening day, film personalities such as Vishal Bhardwaj, Abhishek Chaubey, Nagesh Kukunoor, Ronnie Lahiri, Sanjay Bhutiani were present. Adil Hussain, an actor who received the Special Jury Award at the 2017 National Film Awards, will be part of the 3-day festival including  Shiladitya Bora  director, producer and distributor. Tsering Y Das, Additional Chief Secretary, Assam graced the occasion.

Kukunoor, who visited Assam for the second time said he always looks for a chance to escape from Mumbai. ‘I have been to Guwahati before. Each time I come here, I think I am going to make a film here. By next year, I promise that I will make a feature film here.’

Bhardwaj who had shot his recent film Rangoon in the Northeast said, ‘I came to Assam for the first time in 1982 to play C K Naidu Trophy. I was representing Uttar Pradesh. I stayed here for one and half month at that time. Recently, I shot my movie Rangoon in both Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.

I encourage film festivals because I have learnt my film making from festivals. These festivals can bring films to small places. There can be no better way than film festivals to bridge the gap between mainstream and regional cinema.’

The schedule on day 1 include screening of films from all across the Northeast along with a few invited films from the rest of India, interactive sessions, a 3-day workshop on Film Appreciation by Film and Television Institute of India, Pune.
