RONO HILLS, Nov 2:A book on the ongoing changes of economic development in the North East region was released today by the Vice Chancellor, Rajiv Gandhi University, Professor Tamo Mibang at a function held here in the department of Economics. The book entitled ‘Rethinking Economic Development in North East India’ has been jointly edited by Associate Professor Vandhana Upadhyaya, Department of Economics, RGU and Prof Deepak K Mishra, JNU Delhi.

The book which has two publications, one for international and other for the South East Asia has been published by Rouletdge. It examines the development experience in the north eastern region in India in relation to the processes of globalisation and liberalisation of the economy.

Bringing together researchers and scholars from both within and outside the region, the volume offers a comprehensive and updated analysis of governance and development issues in relation to the north eastern economy. The book also covers a variety of sectors and concerns such as land, agriculture, industry, infrastructure, finance, human development, human security, trade and policy, which are vital for the overall development of North East India.

Congratulating the department for the new book, VC Tamo Mibang said that Economics department is a very vibrant department in the University for it has contributed a lot in the policy making of the state government. He termed the book – a marvellous work for the North East region.

The Vice Chancellor informing the students that the book is a roadmap for economic development in the North east region said that the North East has been ridiculed enough in terms of economic development. It is time that we stop complaining and demanding certain things as separate time zone for the NE and instead focus on the work culture.

Besides a gathering of students, the function was also attended by Deans and HoDs of several departments of the university.
