PASIGHAT, Sep 24: Bomb Disposal Squad today defused an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) which was planted at an RCC Bridge on Korang-Lipin Road near the newly constructed CO Office, Korang in wee hours of September 22 last.
It is reported that, on September 21 last, at around 5 PM, Circle Officer-cum- Executive Magistrate, Ocean Gao and Dy. Commandant, CRPF 186 Bn Vasudev had inspected the newly constructed CO office building and had instructed the PWD labourers to clean up the said office building for accommodating three companies of CRPF who were coming on law & order duty to Korang in connection with the ongoing Lower Siang district issue. But the IED was found planted at RCC bridge of Korang-Lipin Road due to which situation became more tense.
A Bomb Disposal Squad was called in by the district administration through Sigar Military Army base and the IED was defused successfully after following all necessary formalities. According to officials, the IED was run by an analog timer mechanism and had an effective range of about 100 Mtr radius.
Meanwhile, it is also learnt from sources that the High Explosive hand grenade which was recovered around 20 days ago by Pasighat police was also defused by the same bomb disposal squad today. In connection to this case, SP Pasighat Pranav Tayal said that no arrest have been made yet and the apprehended Bij Gogoi is still in police custody.
