ITANAGAR, Nov 24: The Arunachal Anti-Corruption Sena (AACS) on Thursday alleged that the state government has weakened the Lokayukta by diluting its power and function to save its skin.
Speaking to reporters, President AACS  Kirgo Sora said the Lokayukta has lost its teeth in Arunachal as its powers have been diluted and is now only acting as an investigation agency. "The state government on 23 October 2019 has deleted/replaced many major powers and functions including appropriate section & sub-section of Arunachal Pradesh Lokayukta Bill, which has curtailed the power of the Lokayukta in the state," he added.
He further stated that, the Lokayukta (Amendment) Act Ordinance 2019, which was passed in the second session of 7th Legislative Assembly 2022 and received the assent of the Governor, must be repealed for the greater interest of the poor people of the state, he added.
Informing that the state government has deleted major ordinances from the Act such as Chapter - IV (Prosecution Wing) section 12, chapter VI (Jurisdiction in respect of inquiry) section 16 Sub-Section 1 (b) (c) (e), chapter VIII (Power of Lokayukta) Section 26(1) and chapter IX (Offences and Penalties) etc., AACS said by deleting the ordinances of the Lokayukta Act sections, the state government is indirectly encouraging corruption in the state.
"The  Lokayukta Act was the highest level statutory body for the poor people that granted a platform to fight against any corrupted officer, administration and public servants in issues related to misuse of power, but it has also been snatched away by the state government," said general secretary Tadar Doro.
Further the AACS also demanded for immediate advertisement of the Lokayukta office’s staff which has been lying vacant for many years. In total 80 posts of office, staff advertisement are yet to be made by the state government. AACS also demanded the state government to implement the Lokayukta (Amendment) Act 2014 without any modification over its ordinances in the next assembly session.
