ITANAGAR, Sep 7:   Chief Minister Pema Khandu has appealed to all communities and student organisations  to maintain peace and have faith in the government machinery amid tensions and incidents of violence reported during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise involving the Chakma-Hajong communities in the Bordumsa area.
Responding to the issue, Khandu said that the Special Intensive Revision is being conducted in Arunachal Pradesh nearly two decades after the previous exercise, which was carried out in 2006. He said the rules and eligibility criteria under the ongoing SIR are “very clear” and leave little room for confusion.
“The rules are very clear. The documents required for different categories, the applicable birth-year criteria and the documents required from parents are clearly specified,” the Chief Minister said.
Khandu stressed that disputes arising during the verification process should not lead to confrontations between communities or student organisations.
“There is no point in communities or student bodies coming forward and clashing with each other. That is a foolish thing to do,” he said.
The Chief Minister appealed particularly to all communities in Changlang district to trust the government machinery and allow the verification process to proceed according to the prescribed rules.
“Whatever is eligible according to the rules will qualify, and whoever does not qualify will not qualify,” Khandu said.
He also urged student organisations to place their faith in the system and follow the legal process if they suspect any irregularities.
“If there is any deviation, submit a complaint in writing so that further investigation can be carried out,” he said.
The Chief Minister’s remarks come against the backdrop of violence reported in the Bordumsa area during the SIR-related process, in which people from different sides were reportedly injured.
Khandu reiterated that grievances should be addressed through the established administrative and legal mechanisms rather than through confrontation, and called upon all stakeholders to maintain peace while allowing the SIR process to proceed according to the rules.
