PASIGHAT, Aug 6: 

The Pasighat police has busted an inter-district bike lifting racket and arrested four persons while recovering 3 bikes from their possession.

Upon receiving information from sources on July 26 last, the police team led by Officer-in-Charge, Inspector Atan Taki and Sub-Inspector Kalom Apang raided the residence and arrest Kaling Mize and Nangkong Ering and seized a stolen R-15 bike from them. On enquiry the bike was found to be purchased from one Toni Koyu, a habitual bike lifter. Accordingly, Koyu was arrested from Payeng, Leku village PO/PS Jonai, Assam on July 28.

On further investigation, Koyu disclosed the name of another lifter from Berung village near Pasighat following which Tobing Dai from Berung village was arrested and one FZS 16 Yamaha bike was recovered from him. On enquiry it was found that the same bike was lifted from Akashdeep, Itanagar in which connection a case vide Itanagar PS GDE No. 039 dated 27th July 2017 was registered and received at Pasighat vide WT message.

Finally, two main accused namely Toni Koyu and Tobing Dai with two other suspects Kaling Mize and Taken Mize were arrested vide Pasighat PS case No. 123/17 U/S 379 IPC, informed SI Kalom Apang and OC Atan Taki.

Meanwhile, the bikes have been handed over to their owners.

This is a rare achievement of Pasighat police in recent times while busting a bike lifting racket involving inter-district gang and further investigation and interrogation is on to unearth more as several bike lifting cases were reported in the district earlier.
