GUWAHATI, Aug 5:
A total of 83 beneficiaries under the ‘Bharti Infratel Scholarship Program’ were felicitated today in a ceremony held at NEDFi House, Ganeshguri, Guwahati in presence of Circle Operations Head, Bharti Infratel Guwahati, Pravesh Sharma, CSR Head, Bharti Infratel, Sakina Baker.
The scholarship program is a one-of-its-kind for the students with disabilities in the North East initiated by Bharti Infratel, one of the largest telecom tower infrastructure providers in India jointly with Shishu Sarothi, a non-profit organization.
The program was started in 2016 with an objective to provide financial support and aid to the students with disabilities for pursuing professional or technical education, which in turn will help them get employment ready, and thus become self-reliant.
Addressing the gathering, Arman Ali, Executive Director, Shishu Sarothi observed that “This is a unique initiative of Bharti Infratel which is looking at a much focused approach of supporting students with disabilities pursuing higher education in northeast India.”
“Access to education has always remained a core issue in development of persons with disabilities. We hope that more corporate come forward to work on education in the region and government takes cognizance of this issue to provide for access to quality education in barrier-free environment,” he added.
Eminent journalist cum Consulting Editor, CNN News 18, Karma Paljor, addressed the students with a motivational talk and provided an opportunity for students to share their aspirations and expectations from the program.
