BHALUKPONG, Sep 8:The residents of Bhalukpong under West Kameng District woke up to water-logged streets on Friday morning after the season’s heaviest rains lashed the town last night, resulting in submergence of key areas including market, petrol pump and few residential colonies.

 The main market of the town which is located near the check post was waterlogged and rainwater entered many homes due to chocked drainage system, which is still awaiting maintenance even after a similar situation was experienced a month ago.

 While commuters had a tough time riding through these areas, the worst affected are business houses and local residents who had to stay up throughout the night for the rain to stop and water to recede.

 

Meanwhile EAC Bhalukpong, Tamo Riba declared all educational institution closed and directed all HoDs to utilize all resources in rescue and restoration works.

 Besides, Personnel from Fire & Emergency Services have also been pressed into service for evacuation of many residents affected by the flood waters.

 The Circle officer, Bhalukpong, Khoda Rakhi with the help of Police personnel and Fire & Emergency services headed by Kokir Amo and Market Welfare Committee all day rendered their physical support in evacuation of the people from Koilabhati, Upper Bhalukpng, Model Village, Bhalukpong Bazarline, and Lower Bhalukpong area.

 The personnel of 127 RCC with men and machinery also swung into action and cleared the debris from the Bhalukpong-Bomdila road in the township area.
