YINGKIONG, Aug 11:A team of PHE & WS Sub-Division Katan, toured remote villages of Jeru and Pongging of Upper Siang, to sensitize and educate the villagers on water and sanitation and its related diseases on August 9-10 last.
AE, Gebuk Burang appealed the people for active participation of Swacch Bharat Mission and make it a mass movement. He also discouraged deforestation in and around the catchment area of water sources for conservation of water. He also appealed the people to preserve the natural resources and wild life.
Progressive Farmers’ Association President, Takit Miyu, attending as a resource person appealed the people to stop using weedicides and cited the side effects of such chemicals to the human body. He also encouraged the people to take up agriculture and its allied activities in a big way for sustainable source of income.
Imi Kamsi, District sanitation consultant also spoke on Swacch Bharat Mission-Gramin. He said that the mission can be made successful only when people make it a priority agenda and also dwelt on diseases prevailing in rural areas caused due to insanitary ways.
