NAHARLAGUN, Nov 29:An audio visual van for creating mass awareness about production technology and benefits of Oil Palm was ceremonially flagged off by the Agriculture Secretary YW Ringu today in the Directorate of Agriculture complex at Naharlagun. The audio visual van equipped with mass media aids is a part of extension activities by M/s Ruchi Soya Industries Ltd, Andhra Pradesh which is expanding area under Oil Palm in East Siang, West Siang, Lower Subansiri, Papumpare and foothill areas of East Kameng and West Kameng districts in terms of the MoU signed with the state Government.

The Agriculture Secretary advised all the officials of the department to spread the message about benefits of Oil Palm cultivation which is in contract farming mode with buy back assurance. She conveyed her great appreciation to the Ruchi Soya Industries Ltd for initiating private extension services which has so far been negligible in Arunachal Pradesh.

It is worth mentioning fact that the State Government has initiated Oil Palm cultivation through private Oil palm developers in the foothill areas of the state with a target of 20000 ha area by 2022 and it is a step towards crop diversification to ensure doubling of farmers’ income by 2023 as envisaged by the Prime Minister of India.
