ITANAGAR, Apr 17:In the wake of reports of cash crunch in ATMs and banks across the capital complex, Chief Manager, Compliance and Risk, State Bank of India, Regional Branch, Itanagar, TK Boro today revealed that cash is likely to be available within next week.
Interacting with reporters, he further informed that the shortage is due to non-flowing of cash and also non- release of cash by the Reserve Bank of India.
‘However, there is probability of availability of cash within next week as RBI is likely to release 100 Crore for the state. More than 20 SBI branches of the state have already received cash like Ziro, Aalo, Basar, Yinkiong, Pasighat, Koloriang and others however main branches like Naharlagun and Itanagar have not received bigger amount from RBI due to which there is some cash crunch in the capital,’ added Boro.
When inquired about last cash received from RBI, he informed that on March 18 last they had received some amount from RBI which was subsequently distributed to the mentioned SBI branches except Itanagar and Naharlagun.
Responding to query about government’s order to ban cash withdrawal other than government salary, the Chief Manager clarified in the negative stating that the only issue is the unavailability of cash.
Public outrage has been on display in front of the SBI ATMs in various locations of the state capital due to cash crunch for the past several weeks.
‘I have been wandering from one ATM booth to another in search of cash for medical purpose but in vain. All ATMs have dried up, I am helpless,’ lamented a person who was in queue near Bank Tinali ATM booth.
Another student added, ‘It would be helpful if government intervenes on the current situation and make some cash available in all banks and ATMs.’
