ITANAGAR, Feb 27: Efforts are being made for the safe evacuation of three Arunachal students, Horli Rime, Kiran Tasung and Gumin Jerang, stranded in war-torn Ukraine. The three are studying medical science in Uzzhord National University, Ukraine Zaporizhzhia State Medical University and VN Kazarin Kharkiv National University.
The Embassy of India in Kyiv responding to a letter from PS to Minister Law & Justice said that it is aware of the difficult situation faced by the stranded students. The Embassy is updating advisories on the situation on its website eoiukraine.gov.in and requested to monitor its website.
At present the advisory notes that it is safer to stay in familiar locations. Those who are in transit are advised to return to their familiar places of habitation. Those of them, who are stranded in Kyiv may get in touch with their friends and colleagues in Kyiv, universities and other community members, so that they can temporarily lodge there. In case of a critical emergency, students have been asked to contact the emergency lines provided by the Embassy of India, Kyiv.
Since the Ukrainian airspace has been closed, alternative arrangements are being made for evacuation of Indian nationals, the Embassy said.
Meanwhile, Governor of Arunachal Pradesh Brig. (Dr.) B. D. Mishra (Retd.) has taken up the issue of urgent evacuation of the three Arunachal students. In a priority letter to Union External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, shared the anxiety of the parents and the people of Arunachal Pradesh and has requested the Union Minister to take immediate steps to evacuate the students from Ukraine and bring them back to India.
The Governor said that he will anxiously be waiting to hear about their safe return to India and along with the people of Arunachal Pradesh and he will be ever grateful to the Union Minister of External Affairs and the Union Government for the help.
