ITANAGAR, Jan 31: Arunachal Pradesh today launched the ‘Aashwasan’ Campaign which aims to break the chain of the spread of COVID and Tuberculosis infection with a joint Covid-19 and TB Active Case Finding (ACF) campaign across all tribal blocks of 100 districts for 100 days in collaboration with Piramal Swasthya Management and Research Institute through its Tribal Health Collaborative program called Anamaya. In Arunachal, awareness campaigns will be conducted through mobile vehicles in tribal blocks of the four districts of the State viz Papumpare, East Siang, Lohit and Lower Dibang Valley.
The Deputy Commissioner Capital Itanagar Talo Potom launched the campaign today at District TB office, TRIHMS Naharlagun in the presence of DMO Dr Mandip Perme, Dr Hage Tayo, MO (TB), Dr Vivek Pratap Singh Zonal lead Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland
Piramal Swasthya among others.
The campaign also aims to address the misconceptions regarding COVID and Tuberculosis infection and to address the issues regarding vaccine hesitancy and also the importance of adoption of COVID appropriate behaviour by the general public.
Stating that treatment for TB is completely free but early detection is required to stop its spread, the DC sought cooperation of all in this endeavour to completely eradicate tuberculosis.
With the launch of the campaign, sputum collection and testing will be done based on symptoms through an active case finding of potential TB patients at the village level and treatment will be provided free of cost by the government upon confirmation of the disease. This will help in preventing the further spread of the disease. Under this campaign people will not need to go to the government health centres for testing, rather the sputum of presumptive cases will be collected from home and transported to the nearest diagnostic centres for testing.
Dr Perme informed that the aim of the campaign is to reach out to the unreachable and to detect the TB cases as early as possible.
Dr Tayo informed about the various symptoms of TB while stressing that the only way to break the transition of disease is to detect it early. He informed that the target is to eliminate TB completely by 2025. He also informed that along with free test and treatment, the government also provides Rs 500 per month to patients during the course of treatment.
Dr Singh informed that keeping in view the aspect of community participation, panchayat members, community influencers, tribal leaders and traditional healers will also be involved during the campaign to make the village TB free and educate people about TB disease and its prevention.
The project supported by USAID will be implemented by the Piramal Swasthya Management and Research Institute under Anamaya program with the help of the concerned department in the district.
Tribal TB initiative is a joint venture by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs , MoH&FW, Central TB Division and Piramal Swasthya.

Local MLA Kaling Moyong launched the campaign for East Siang in presence of District Deputy Commissioner Tayi Taggu, DMO Dr. Radesh Tattan and others.
Under the programme awareness campaign regarding COVID will be conducted through mobile vehicles in 5-Health Tribal blocks i.e., at Pasighat, Ruksin, Mebo, Yagrung and Bilat of East Siang District.
