ZIRO, Mar 5: Archeological Department in collaboration with Pamu Yalang Group has recovered ancient pottery and other items during its excavation at Piichang Putu, Bamin Michi village.
An archaeologist from the Directorate of Research, Kago Omo, informed that the excavation was started on February 27 last after villagers informed about the ancient history of making pottery by the Apatani people in the said area.
After due research and analysis, team from the department in collaboration with the Pamu Yalang Group and villagers excavated the area in four trenches and as informed found dozens of ancient items like pottery, sword, knives, ornaments and other pottery-making items from the said location in between 15 to 20 centimeters inside the designated trenches.
Omo, further informed that along with the excavated items, a report will be submitted to the department to carry research on them.
Michi Tai, Chairman of Pamu Yallang Group appreciated the department for initiating the excavation on the request of the village and showing faith on the oral history of pottery making by our ancestors.
Earlier, we didn’t have records about this history of pottery making, but through these findings, we will preserve them as well as make a record of the ancient history of pottery making by the Apatani people. Moreover, it will be helpful for the coming generation to know about their history practically, added the Chairman.
He further appealed to the state government and local MLAs to extend assistance in preserving the site.
