PASIGHAT, Mar 13: The affected land owners under stalled Pasighat-Murkongselek Northeast Frontier Railway BG line, 26 KM from Ruksin to Pasighat have sought Chief Minister Pema Khandu’s intervention for early release of compensation for phase-II through a representation recently.

While reacting to the statement made by Minister of State for Railways, Rajen Gohain during the flagging off ceremony of Arunachal Express at Naharlagun railway station on March 1 last, the affected land owners have made it clear ‘no compensation, no railway.’

General Secretary, NF Railway Land Affected People, Phase-II, Tabuk Taloh, claims that a team of North East Frontier Railway had consented the request for final rate of compensation as Rs. 11,91,700 per Bigha. “The concern NF Railway team had already negotiated with the affected people based on which compensation of Phase-I was already paid, but Phase-II’s compensation has been put on hold which has created a great sense of discontent and disparity in the minds of people”, he added.

It is worth adding here that, the affected land owners have been stopped from any kind of agricultural activities within the surveyed BG line since 2016, losses of which should also be compensated by the concern authorities, added Gagam Ering, President, NF Railway Land Affected People, Phase-II. He also mentioned that rate of compensation was decided by the concern authorities and land owners have nothing to do with it, but Gohain’s statement “project halted due to high land compensation claims” is disheartening and unacceptable on the part of land owners.
