PASIGHAT, Jul 8:

 

In the wake of flash flood caused by incessant rains during the past few days which also caused huge damage to the approach road joining the Siku bridge, a coordination meeting was held on Friday to discuss necessary preventive measures.

 

Initiated by Mebo MLA and Advisor to CM Lombo Tayeng, East Siang Deputy Commissioner Tamiyo Tatak, BRO and GREF officials including engineers of the government and representatives of TK Engineering attended the meeting.

 

This part of the bridge along National Highway-52 between Ayeng and Mebo has been continuously facing huge erosion for the last couple of years. The BRTF and BRO were doing their best by constructing a long guide bund which was washed off three years back yielding no better result.

 

This year too flood in Siku river is posing serious threat and the bridge along NH 52 has been facing huge erosion as usual. According to official sources, maintenance of the said road and bridges has been handed over to the State Highway department recently on July 5 last.

 

Observing that during last couple of years the turbulent river has washed away fertile croplands and habitations along both its banks and is now threatening the bridge, Tayeng asserted on the need for concerted efforts to ensure that road communication is not disrupted adopting anti-erosion measures.

He appealed the attending defense forces and corporates to come forward and to extend all possible helps and supports to the WRD and Highway engineers providing men and machineries at time of urgent needs.

He instructed the engineers to carry out flood preventive measures on priority and war-footing. The Advisor further informed that people friendly Pema Khandu led state government is aware of the situation and would provide required fund for preventive and control measures.
