ITANAGAR, Apr 30: Members of the All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) today stopped a debate session related to the Chakma-Hajong longstanding issue being held at the Rajiv Gandhi University.
The said debate session themed ‘The Chakma issue in Arunachal Pradesh: Search for a Democratic Solution’ was organized by the Department of Political Science and aimed to address the longstanding Chakma and Hajong issue.
The intervention by AAPSU, the prominent student organization in the state, brought the ongoing proceedings of the event led by Prof. Nani Bath to an unexpected standstill.
Responding to the media, General Secretary, AAPSU Ritum Tali underscored the union's stand emphasizing that no talks concerning the Chakma and Hajong issue should proceed without prior consultation with the Union.
“We have been fighting the issue of Chakma-Hajong refugees for last many decades to protect the indigenous rights and land. AAPSU won’t tolerate any organization or authority who tries to create any confusion amongst the indigenous people on Chakma-Hajong issue. RGU is a reputed institution and organizing events and inviting speaker from Chakma community that too without consultation with AAPSU will never be tolerated,” added Tali.
