ITANAGAR, Jun 30: A team of the All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) led by its President and General Secretary called on Chief Minister Pema Khandutoday at his official chamber.

During the meeting, the union submitted a three point memorandum whereby it strongly opposed the demands’ of CoSAAP to increase the retirement age of government employees from 58 to 60 years, Immediate invocation of Essential Services Maintenance Act(ESMA)  if necessary and continuity of NOC system.

AAPSU stated that the demand of CoSAAP is illogical and is hampering the unemployed youths of the state. The Union in its representation has conveyed that it will stand on its demand firmly as it a question of thousands of unemployed youths waiting to be absorbed in state governmentservice.

Asserting that FR-56 is for central service employees and not mandatory for the state government to implement, the AAPSU also cited the retirement age of state employees in other states like Kerala and Jharkhand having 56 years as retirement age and also the Punjab Cabinet who decided “against raising retirement of employees in the state to 60 from 58 years, on grounds that it would send out a wrong message to the youths.”
Terming the demand against the young aspirants of the state, the union cited that the pen down strike adopted by CoSAAP is setting a bad precedent in the state which will prove to be disastrous for the state in days to come.
