ITANAGAR, Jul 31: All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) has deferred its proposed 24-hour bandh after the state government issued a notification to suspend all Residential Proof Certificates(RPC) issued to Chakma-Hajong community.
Speaking to the media at the press club today, Vice President-AAPSU, Nabam Gandhi informed that after meeting with government representatives, the union has demanded proper notification to suspend all the RPCs issued to the Chakma-Hajong community and inclusion of AAPSU members in the fact-finding committee.
He further informed that, on July 30 last, the state government had constituted a five-member committee led by Opak Gao, Secretary Food & Civil Supply as Chairman, Hage Lailang Director Border Affairs, Likha Sampu Under Secretary Home as members, and two representatives from AAPSU have been included as members as per the Union's demand.
On more than 500 Residential Proof Certificates issued to the Chakma-Hajong members, Gandhi said, the government has issued a notification to suspend all the RPCs. Moreover, the five-member committee will also have to submit their initial report within 15 days and the final report within 45 days.
"We haven’t called off our protest but it has been suspended as of now. If the reports of the Committee is not on proper, AAPSU will continue its agitation," asserted the VP.
While responding to query on voting rights of more than 4000 Chakma-Hajong people, Nabam Gandhi said "they are refugees and they cannot avail our rights; they have to leave this state."
