Indigenous Faith Day celebrated in Delhi, Leaders call for cultural…
ITANAGAR, May 25:A team of All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union led by its President Hawa Bagang and General Secretary Tobom Dai attended the Public hearing called by the National Human Rights Commission at Itanagar today. The union was also accompanied by two of its legal advisers – Adv. Marto Kato & Adv. Nabam Jollow. A representation was submitted to the visiting NHRC team.
While making the written submission, Dai also made an oral submission before the NHRC on behalf of the indigenous tribes of the state regarding the wrong portraying of indigenous Arunachalees as "oppressors" by the refugees and certain section of the human rights lobby in New Delhi.
‘It is the Arunachalees who are at the receiving end. Due to mass influx of refugees there has been drastic changes in the demography in the eastern districts of the state,’ he said pointing that this is the first interaction between any AAPSU team and the NHRC.
While taking strong exception to the press statement by former minister Bida Taku, the AAPSU termed it purely a political gimmick bereft of any logic. The issue of ST&PRC to the people of that concerned area is a sensitive subject matter which needs mature deliberations as well as consultations from all stakeholders including the AAPSU, it said.
The Union further urged Taku and other politicians to apply caution and not resort to political antics which will be detrimental to the interests of the indigenous people of the state.
In the quest to become an MLA, Bida Taku should not act as an agent of the non-locals and indulge in anti-Arunachal activities. No single individual or for that matter a party can determine the fate of more than 26 major tribes and 110 sub-tribes as per their whims and fancies, the AAPSU asserted.
Further, the Union also urged the State Government to immediately call a meeting of the reconstituted Joint High Powered Committee under the chairmanship of Nabam Rebia, Minister, UD & Housing, GoAP vide order no. Pol-193/2004(pt.I)/958 to look into the details of PRC issue.
