SEPPA, Nov 26: A 52-year-old man has been sentenced to 20 years rigorous punishment for raping  a 16-year-old disabled girl. The same person has also been sentenced to 5 years rigorous punishment for aggravated sexual assault on three other girls, all below 12 years of age.
The Special Judge (POCSO) Bomdila on November 24 last has sentenced one Amar Das, to 20 years rigorous imprisonment and fine of Rs 20000 and to 5 years rigorous imprisonment under POCSO Act.
The East Kameng Police launched a thorough investigation after it received an FIR on March 23 earlier this year, from a native of Seppa, East Kameng that his sister, a physically challenged minor aged 16 years had been repeated raped by their neighbour one Amar Das. The victim did not inform about the assaults earlier as Das warned her not to disclose the incident to anyone. 
On receipt of the FIR, the OC Women Police Station, Seppa, registered a case under POCSO Act and took up the investigation.
During investigation, it was confirmed that the victim is 75 percent ortho dumb and below 16 years of age. The alleged accused Amar Das, a native of Tezpur, Assam who was working as a welder in Seppa, was immediately arrested and taken into custody. During investigation it was revealed that he (Das) had sexually assaulted many other minor girls of cooperative colony, Seppa. The other three victims are all below 12 years of age. 
All the victims were presented before the learned CJM Seppa and their statements were recorded. The accused was tried and has been convicted in the present case, said East Kameng Superintendent of Police, Rahul Gupta.
