ITANAGAR, Jun 24: In a tragic incident, five persons were buried alive after a retaining wall of an under construction RCC building collapsed this morning   here today at Donyi Colony. Every year the onset of monsoon spells doom and such incident has resulted in deaths of many unsuspecting souls especially in the capital complex.

All the bodies have been retrieved after almost an hour of joint search and rescue operation by NDRF, SDRF and State Police with their men and machine .The victims  have been  identified as Pappu Katiya (20), Pappu Garel (21), Kanha Kenwar (40), Babloo Telenga (19) and Jiten Telenga (19).

As per reports the victims were construction labourers from Madurali Basti, Bishwanath Charali, Assam and  were working and staying in a makeshift labour camp near the now collapsed retaining wall.

Expressing grief over the incitement, Secretary Disaster Management Bidol Tayeng who was present during the rescue operation said ‘it is really an unfortunate incident where valuable lives have been lost. As soon as we received the SOS we made all arrangements with the help of NDRF, SDRF and State Police and rushed to the spot.’

He further appealed the people to take extreme precaution during monsoon and to shift to other safer locations if needed. He informed that they are also asking the residents nearby the incident site to move to safer location as the NDRF team has informed that the soil is still loose and could create havoc in downstream areas.

Deputy Commissioner, Capital Complex Prince Dhawan who also rushed to the spot after receiving information has appealed to the denizens of the Capital Complex to remain alert in view of the monsoon season. He has further appealed the public to refrain from residing in vulnerable areas. He further informed that1077 can be called for any emergency by Bsnl,Airtel ,Jio and Vodafone users. He has also appealed the denizens to report and call 1077 if they witness earth cutting and vulnerable and risk areas so that such incidents could be averted before it happens rather than after the damage is done. He has further appealed the citizens to refrain from any kind of earth cutting during monsoon season and to cooperate with the DA to prevent such disasters.

Besides team of NDRF and SDRF, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DGP) Tusar Taba, was also present during the search and rescue operation.
