ITANAGAR, Aug 17:The Mobile Inspection Team (MIT) of Department of Legal Metrology & Consumer Affairs has conducted surprise inspection of trading premises here at Gohpur Tinali and Chandranagar market today and booked 23 cases for violation of various provisions of Legal Metrology Act, 2009.

The Mobile Inspection team lead by Daro Marbom, Deputy Controller (HQ) has seized packaged commodities items and weights and measures from 17 traders of Itanagar Market for violation of various provisions of the Act.

Of them, 5 traders have been booked for contravention of packaged commodities Rules, 2011 who have been selling imported edible packaged items without mandatory declaration, smudging or none marking of MRP etc while 13 traders have been booked for using non-standard weights, measures or weighing and measuring instruments.

In one of the hardware shop, cement was sold without MRP for which a case has been booked. In a medicine shop, a packaged commodities items were being sold at exorbitant price when the package did not bear MRP.  This shop was inspected on receipt of a complaint from a consumer at the Department’s WhatsApp. This medicine shop was also booked for violation of PC Rules.

All the traders who have been booked were served notice for compounding of the case. Also they were directed to refrain from such irregular activities in future. The Department also appealed consumers to avoid unfamiliar imported food/ cosmetic packaged items which have no mandatory information that may cause health hazards.
