ITANAGAR, Aug 26:A total of twenty artistes from North East Region were honoured under the Young Talent Artist’s Award scheme of Ministry of Culture, Government of India in a ceremony held on Friday at Raj Bhavan, Itanagar.

The felicitation programme was organized by North East Zone Cultural Centre, Dimapur in collaboration with Department of Art & Culture.

Bijit Kumar Das and Binit Bara from Assam,  Naoshekpam Diana Chanu,  Rajkumar Satyaditya  and Samjetshabam Rushibala Devi) from Manipur, Zonunchami and Lalhruaitluangi from Mizoram and others were recipients of the awards for the year 2015-16.

While Kompi Riba , Mudang Kano,   Kismat , Bismita Dutta, Kuldeep Patgiri, Bedanta Bikash (from Assam, Rangskembor Sculpture and Banshailang Mukhim from Meghalaya, Alyssa Lalrinsangi, Andrew Lalrinzuala, Lalhriatchhunga Fanai from Mizoram and others received the awards from the year 2016-17.

Speaking on the occasion, Governor, PB Acharya congratulated the award winners and said that they are an asset to society.

Governor pointed out that there is no dearth of talents in the youth and only need is to provide them with ample opportunities and platforms to showcase their work. To create greater appeal and awareness, the function has been organized in Itanagar for the first time instead of Dimapur or Guwahati, he added.

Disclosing that aim of the initiative was to encourage young talented artists in various performing and folk art forms of the region, the governor urged upon the youth and cultural troupes to register themselves with Zonal Cultural Centre for latent opportunities and outside exposure.

The Governor further appealed to the artists and their guides to avail benefits from Guru Shishya Parampara Scheme and avail  scholarship programs  being provided to the pupil and an honorarium to the Master (Guru) as per the norms fixed by Ministry of Culture, Government of India.

Deputy Chief Minister, Chowna Mein in his address highlighted the rich cultural heritage of the tribal communities of Arunachal Pradesh and Mein stressed on sustaining it.

Earlier, the Governor along with other dignitaries saw the displays like paintings, pottery etc. by the awardees and interacted with them.

Legislative Assembly, Speaker TN Thongdok, State Minister from Art and Culture Dr. Mohesh Chai were also present on the occasion.
