CM puts admin on alert, announces ex gratia

SAGALEE, Jul 11: At least 14 people are feared dead in a massive landslide triggered by flash flood due to incessant rains for last three days in Laptap village under Sagalee sub-division of Papumpare district Tuesday afternoon. A heavy landslide occurred at Laptap village today at around 2.30PM damaging five houses and reportedly buried alive four families consisting of 14 members. According to reports, one dead body of a woman has been retrieved so far from the debris. 

Following the incident, the district administration has mobilized relief and rescue efforts. However, severe roadblock between Sagalee and the site of occurrence is hampering medical and official teams from reaching the spot. The ADC and medical team could not reach the spot due to the road block. The administration has requested local PR members, youth leaders to assist in relief and rescue operations. 
Meanwhile, a medical team with life saving drugs has been dispatched and a police team led by two officers of DySP rank has already left for Laptap. A 35- member NDRF team has been moved and expected to reach anytime to carry out rescue operations along with volunteers and villagers of the area. Additional police personnel from PTC Banderdewa are also on the way while SP Papum Pare too has left for the spot to oversee the rescue operations.
Local MLA and former Chief Minister Nabam Tuki and the Deputy Commissioner Papum Pare Tai Kaye has left for Laptap village  to  oversee the recovery operations.
This is the second major incident at Sagalee Administrative sub-division within short span of time this month. Earlier on July 4 last, an IAF helicopter crashed killing four members on board while on evacuation duty of stranded people at Sagalee. Due to incessant rain the Sagalee Sub-Division is totally cut off from surface communication. It has becoming a challenging task for the executing agency of 229 Trans Highway M/S Shushee Infra and Mining Ltd to restore surface communication to make it fit to transport essential commodities.
ADC Sagalee, Jalash Pertin has expressed shock over the tragic incident and requested the government to grant immediate relief ex-gratia to the kin of the deceased.
 
ITANAGAR, Jul 11:Chief Minister Pema Khandu has expressed deep shock and grief over incident and immediately put the district administration on alert and ordered urgent rescue operation to evacuate probable survivors trapped inside the debris and damaged houses. He also asked the administration to provide all necessary assistance like food, medicine etc. to the affected victims and shift them to safer locations.
Reiterating his fervent appeal to remain alert and shift from vulnerable places, Khandu said Arunachal Pradesh has been at the receiving end of nature’s fury every year. The best people can do is avoid vulnerable places and stop rampant earth cutting and deforestation, he added.
The Chief Minister directed the district administration to ensure that people residing in vulnerable areas are immediately shifted to safer locations and provided with all basic amenities at least till the monsoons recede.
Expressing grief over loss of precious human lives, Khandu announced release of ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakhs each to the next of kins of the deceased according to the laid down norms. He conveyed his deepest condolences and extended solidarity with the bereaved family members and prayed for the safety of those who are missing.
