PASIGHAT, Jun 28: The 12 hour East Siang District bandh starting from morning 5 AM till 5 PM in the evening called by All East Siang District Students Union (AESDSU) against alleged failure of the state government to hand over the murder case of late Ojing Taying to CBI from SIT passed off peacefully here today.

Though the district administration had issued prohibitory order against the bandh call, the bandh was effective as most establishments and institutions like post office, banks, schools, market etc were closed and government offices saw little attendance thereby affecting normal life in the district.

While speaking to this scribe, AESDSU General Secretary, Tonong Darang said that, the bandh passed off peacefully without any untoward incident and they are thankful to the general public for supporting the bandh call which they were compelled to launch due to alleged failure of the state government to hand over the murder case to CBI.

“State police and SIT are knowingly delaying the investigation as no serious attempts were seen from their end. Not even a single person was interrogated except the girlfriend of late Taying’s friend who was also seriously attacked. Now we don’t have any faith on the investigation of state police and SIT, hence we are demanding for CBI enquiry into the case so that the perpetrators are brought to light and punished,” added Darang.

AAPSU Asst. Gen Secy Thomas Jerang also echoed the same and demanded for early handing over of the case to CBI on moral ground. According to AESDSU, the next phase of bandh will cover entire Adi inhabited districts such as East Siang, Upper Siang, Siang, Lower Dibang Valley, part of West Siang, Namsai etc. if the state government remains a mute spectator in the case.
