NAMSAI, Jan 9: The alleged suicide of a 10-year-old girl in a private hostel here today has raised speculation with the parents of the deceased refusing to accept that their daughter took her own life and instead alleged corporal punishment by hostel authority.

The girl identified as Janki Manyu, a native of Wakro was a student of class V in a privately run school at Namsai and was staying at a hostel called ‘Kids Home’.

Speaking to this daily, the parents refuted the claim made by hostel authorities that their daughter took the extreme step.

‘Many a time, I have noticed various marks on my daughter’s body, which was undeniably due to harsh punishment given by hostel authorities. So I cannot accept the claim that my innocent 10 year daughter took her own life,’ father Talom Manyu said demanding proper enquiry against the hotel authorities to unearth the truth.

Investigation Officer of the case, Police station Namsai, Sub Inspector CA Namchoom informed this daily that, FIR has been lodged against the hostel authority PS case No.6/2018,US-302 (Punishment for murder ) as per the complaint by the parents and investigation is going on.

However, more details on reason of death would be ascertained only after the Postmortem report, he added.

They took the child to the Community Health Center Namsai, where the doctor declared her brought dead.
