Eastern Sentinel Arunachal News

A silent awakening rather a social transformation revolution is taking place in the remote parts of Arunachal Pradesh where once even eagles did not dare fly down. The people living in the silent valleys and the misty mountains are now getting a taste what the government legitimately owe them – the benefits of modernization and development. Think of the days, when tribal people had to walk for days and nights to reach a poorly equipped health centre where doctors or medicines were as elusive as ever or a ramshackle government office where hardly any government business was transacted. The situation has now changed. Today, people in far-flung and inaccessible areas are getting a chance to vent their grievances, get some medical attention for their ills and get their necessary documents certified. All this because of the revolutionary step adopted by the Pema Khandu government to bring the administrative machinery at the doorsteps of the people-sarkar aapke dwar.

The ‘Sarkar Aapke Dwar’ (Government at your doorstep) programme was an initiative of the state government, which was passed in the 2018-19 budget, directing every deputy commissioner to conduct Jan-sunwais on the first of every month in their respective districts to resolve public grievances on the spot as well as provide the people with necessary services on the spot for which otherwise they have to travel to circle, sub-divisional or district headquarters. The main objective of the Jan-Sunwai Sammelan was to deliver government services to the citizens. A plethora of services are now being provided during the programmes like Aadhaar enrollment, e-ILP, Schedule Tribe certificates, permanent residence certificates, income certificate, driving licences, renewal of arms licences, distribution of items under the Ujala scheme, new account opening and other government schemes, etc. There is no denying the fact that many a time, government schemes, including Centrally sponsored schemes remain unknown to the beneficiaries, for whom they are intended.

The Sarkar aapke dwar has become a mass movement now with people in remote areas thronging the camps to get their needs fulfilled. Many remote areas have been covered but still a lot of areas remain to be covered and a lot needs to be done. These camps will also go a long way in empowering the people as also disseminating information about their legitimate rights.
