ITANAGAR, Mar 27: A youth forum discussion on ‘Climate Change in Indian Himalayan Region: Causes, Impact, Mitigation, and Strategic Adaptation’ was organised today here at the Arunachal Pradesh Science Centre jointly by the Arunachal Pradesh State Council for Science & Technology (APSCS&T) and G.B. Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment, North-East Regional Centre, Itanagar.
The programme was inaugurated by Joint Director, APSCS&T Bamang Apo in presence of its Deputy Director Dr. Pakngu Lombi, Scientific Officer Neelam Kuma and Resource Person Dr. Reter Potom. Highlighting climate change as the greatest global threat leading to natural disasters, Apo threw light on the pressing factors responsible for such disasters. In her address Kuma informed that the youth forum was conducted as part of the ongoing project entitled ‘Himalayan Knowledge Networking’ that aims to create awareness among youths on climate change. Resource Person Dr. Potom delivered a talk on ‘Climate Change: Causes Implication, Mitigation and Strategic Adaptation’ wherein she highlighted the causes and implications of climate change and appealed all for practicing environment-friendly lifestyles.
A total of 54 participants comprising students, teachers, and denizens from 14 schools and 4 colleges participated in the programme. Extempore speeches, quizzes and drawing competitions were also organised.
