ITANAGAR, Sep 18: Mounting pressure on the state government, the All Arunachal Pradesh Youth Organization (AAPYO) has vowed to begin a hunger strike from September 21, alleging large-scale corruption in the NH-415 Package-B project. The protest comes just a day before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Arunachal Pradesh, intensifying the political heat.
Accusing the contractor, M/s Woodhill Shivam (JV), of endangering public safety, AAPYO alleged that 18 piers of the under-construction highway were built with defective TMT bars and substandard cement. The group, backed by the Bazar Welfare Society (BWS), has demanded the immediate dismantling of the faulty structures and blacklisting of the company.
During the press conference today, AAPYO President Kipa Kanam expressed strong resentment at the government’s silence on its 15-day ultimatum issued on September 3.
“The authorities are turning a blind eye to rampant irregularities in a project that is crucial for the capital region. We cannot stay silent when public safety and livelihoods are at stake,” the organization said.
AAPYO demands include Blacklisting of M/s Woodhill Shivam (JV), Dismantling of 18 defective piers and 13 girders, Suspension of all officials involved in the alleged scam, Compensation to Naharlagun traders hit by delays, Immediate Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity (UPV) tests on piers, and Refund of money allegedly collected illegally from traders.
The youth body warned that its agitation will escalate if corrective measures are not taken immediately. “Our fight is not political—it is for accountability, safety, and justice. We hope the Prime Minister himself takes note during his visit,” AAPYO leaders asserted.
