AALO, Apr 18: The History Department of Donyi-Polo Govt. College (DPGC), Kamki celebrated the World Heritage Day at the Herodotus Hall. The occasion brought together 63 enthusiastic students from 8 departments of the college and 4 faculty members, who participated in the celebration that was designed to highlight the urgent need to protect our heritage from the ravages of climate change, human conflict, neglect and modernization.
Organized the B.A. History (Honours) IV semester under the supervision of Assistant Professor Duli Ete, the celebration was a sensory experience, touching all senses through visual, auditory, tactile and culinary delights. Through a captivating photography contest, students showcased their perspective on local heritage sites and monuments, while a powerful play titled “The Abduction of Sita” from the epic Ramayana highlighted the cultural significance of India’s literary iheritage. A stunning display of traditional attire of Galo, Adi, Memba, Bori and Mising celebrated the rich sartorial heritage, and the serving of traditional cuisine brought the flavors and aromas of cultural legacy to life. Cultural performances by students from VI, VI and II semesters added a vibrant dimension to the celebration.This immersive experience emphasized the importance of protecting shared heritage and promoting a sense of collective responsibility towards its preservation.
Prizes and certificates were distributed to the winners and the participants of the World Heritage Day Photography Contest by Assistant Professors Dr. Doge Ngomdir (Hindi), Dr. Gektum Tangu (Geography) and Ms. Jumbi Kato Lobom (History).
