Indian Army conducts ‘Know Your Army’ outreach
ITANAGAR, Jun 14: The World Blood Donor Day (WBDD) with this year’s theme ‘Give Blood and Keep the World Beating’ was observed today at the TRIHMS, jointly organized by the State Blood Transfusion Council (SBTC), Arunachal Pradesh State AIDS Control Society (APSACS) and TRIHMS.
Director of Health Services Dr M. Lego, while appreciating the state’s NGOs who volunteered to donate blood during the pandemic, appealed to the citizens to promote voluntary blood donation. Project Director, APSACS Dr Riken Rina and Chief Medical Superintendent, TRIHMS appealed to the common people to come forward voluntarily to the nearest blood banks to replenish the requirement keeping in view of the prevailing pandemic. SBTC Deputy Director Dr Joram Khopey said the WBDD this year could not be organized on a large scale due to Covid pandemic and blood donation has been planned in a staggered manner. Deputy Director (IEC), SBTC and APSACS Tashor Pali while stressing on the importance of IEC campaigns said that social media users should use it responsibly to create awareness on voluntary blood donation.
Blood Bank Officer, TRIHMS Dr Tashi Paleng informed that the annual blood collection in Arunachal Pradesh at present is around 9000 units, whereas the requirement is more than 15000 and appealed all to come to the blood banks directly to donate blood voluntarily, adding that usual blood donation camps are being restricted due to COVID protocols. To mark the day, five blood donor organisations namely Friends For Life, All Nyishi Students' Union, VKV Alumni Association, Upper Subansiri District Law Students’ Union and 16th Alumni Arunachal Law Academy were felicitated with mementos and certificates.
These five organisations volunteered themselves to donate blood during the pandemic to meet the shortfall.
A voluntary blood donation event was also organised at the TRIHMS Blood Bank by Ziro-II Collegians Coordination Committee, Itanagar (ZCCCI) and Cancer Welfare Society.
A voluntary blood donation camp was organized at the Blood Bank, BPGH Pasighat by "AYANG" led by Mrs Aini Taki Taloh. 21 units were collected where 25 volunteers turned up to donate.
Ayi Taloh particularly extended her thanks to a 15-year-old young boy who had come to donate blood but was not eligible. I am very impressed and people should learn from him, she said. It is worth mentioning here that "AYANG" and its hundreds of volunteers remain unknown to many. They have been saving thousands of precious lives by donating blood voluntarily. Thousands are still living in every corner of this state and beyond due to AYANG’s noble contributions.
