RONO HILLS, Apr 20:

A one day workshop on “New NAAC Process for Assessment and Accreditation of Universities and NIRF Related Issues” was organized by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of RGU at the Rajiv Gandhi University.

Inaugurating the workshop Prof. Sushanta Kumar Nayak, the Vice-Chancellor in-charge of RGU was optimistic that the workshop would set a benchmark for the university fraternity which will be beneficial in quality enhancement and observed that it is high time to retrospect to see the good and grey areas in the whole process of accreditation and assessment itself and lauded the MHRD for bringing more objectivity to the whole system, and spoke on the importance of use of ICT and the proactive role of students and alumni of the university.

The Resource Person of National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bangalore Prof. Niranjan Roy who is also the Dean, Mahatma Gandhi School of Economics & Commerce, Assam University, Silchar delivered the key-note address. In his exhaustive address on Revised Assessment and Accreditation Framework of NAAC, he informed that new Framework was launched in July 2017 and then on there had been a paradigm shift making the Assessment and Accreditation processes more ICT enabled under the aegis of digital India Initiatives of the Govt. of India, objective oriented and transparent. The new revised framework includes several metrics giving an enhanced participation of students and alumni in the assessment process.

Earlier, the Registrar in-charge of the University Prof. Tomo Riba while giving his welcome address apprised the gathering that the workshop is the need of the hour and an important initiative of RGU’s IQAC as the NAAC has introduced new framework of assessment and accreditation.

The Director of Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of RGU Prof. Amitava Mitra, while introducing the workshop highlighted on the NAAC accreditations and NIRF ranking of RGU and reiterated that RGU as a growing university will have to put more thrust on improving upon its ranking.

Later in a moderated panel discussion in the second session of the workshop chaired by the Director IQAC Prof. Amitava Mitra, thorough presentations on RGU’s Ranking aspects and their parameters were presented by the IQAC member and Dean of Basic Science and IT Prof. Utpal Bhattacharjee and the Workshop Coordinator Dr. Rajesh Chakrabarty respectively. Many issues pertaining to assessment and accreditation of the university and on National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) raised by the participants were addressed and clarified during the two brainstorming sessions.

Among others the, Dean of Social Science Prof. S.K. Singh, Dean of Environmental Sciences Prof. Nishamani Kar, Dean of Languages Prof. Harish Kumar Sharma, Principal of Govt. College Doimukh Dr. M.Q. Khan, Joint Registrar Dr. David Pertin, various heads of the departments, faculty members and academic administrators of the university attended the workshop.
