PASIGHAT, Aug 10: Women Against Social Evils (WASE) here of East Siang district and Gorkha Mahila Sangha (GMS) from Assam have decided to fight against gambling, alcohol and drug menace taking place across East Siang district of Arunachal and Jonai of Assam.

According to sources, the team from GMS invited WASE to help the Assam women group in tackling the issues concerning society, particularly drug menace. As WASE is being appreciated across rank and file of Arunachal for their dedicated social welfare activities, their popularity and working patterns has also impressed their Assam counterparts which led to a joint meeting.

From now on, both WASE and GMS will conduct joint awareness meeting, raids to suspected places while taking police and magistrate into confidence as several illegalities are mostly taking place along Arunachal-Assam borders. WASE functionaries are of the belief that the menace will be somehow restricted in East Siang and Jonai area as most illegal drug supplies come from Assam.
