ITANAGAR, Nov 2: Youth for Change (Arunachal Pradesh) on Monday formally submitted a Memorandum-cum-Petition to the state Chief Secretary, over the ongoing Siang Upper Multipurpose Project (SUMP) issue, seeking the release of detainees, withdrawal of security forces and immediate inclusive dialogue with affected communities.
The youth organisation placed three key demands before the State Government, including a review of all detentions and release of individuals wherever detention is not legally justified. It also sought protection against intimidation or retaliatory action against individuals for participating in peaceful democratic protests.
The organisation further demanded an urgent review and withdrawal of CRPF, RAF and other armed forces deployed in Upper Siang and Siang wherever their continued presence is not necessary.
Emphasising the need for dialogue, Youth for Change called for an immediate collective meeting involving grassroots activists, Gaon Burahs, traditional leaders, community elders and representatives selected by the concerned communities to facilitate meaningful discussions on the SUMP issue.
The organisation maintained that matters concerning land, rivers, livelihoods, identity and the future of indigenous communities cannot be resolved through intimidation or force, but require transparency, mutual respect and meaningful engagement with the people concerned.
Reaffirming its commitment to constitutional rights, peaceful democratic expression, justice and dialogue, Youth for Change described the memorandum as a collective appeal for the voices and concerns of the people to be heard and respected by the State Government.
