PASIGHAT, May 14: After a 16-day manhunt, West Siang police on Friday morning finally managed to arrest Tumi Ado, the accused wanted in the Pasighat abduction and attempt-to-murder case of a woman from a forest near Jirdin village near Aalo township.
Based on an intelligence input, a team from the Aalo PS led by Inspector Y. Riram nabbed the ‘Most Wanted’ after a night-long search from the said hideout.
Speaking to this daily, West Siang Superintendent of Police, Raja Banthia informed that the accused has been discreetly sent to Pasighat as a pre-emptive measure to thwart any untoward incident in Aalo, the place of arrest, as the visibly furious clan members of the victim were seen gathering around the police station.
It is worthy to mention that the incident manifesting despicable brutality created uproar in the state and the Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW) while taking suo motu cognizance of the case had also asked the East Siang Superintendent of Police to make sure there is an early arrest of the accused. Finally, the West Siang police managed to crack the case.
The accused Tumi Ado (32), s/o late Daktum Ado is a native of West Siang who attacked the woman(24) in Yapgo village of East Siang district, the place of crime. Two cases, one at Pasighat PS (FIR no 49/21 under section 307 IPC read with section 27 of Arms Act) and subsequently another one at Women PS Pasighat (FIR No 6/21 u/s 366/323 IPC) were lodged. However, despite all efforts the accused remained elusive. As per case details, the accused came from Aalo to Pasighat and after a heated argument with the victim over their old relationship attacked her with a Dao that led to multiple grievous injuries on her hands and legs. The victim was admitted to the surgical ward of BPGH Pasighat and is under continuous medical supervision there and her present condition is stable.
Confirming the arrest to this daily, East Siang Superintendent of Police Sumit Kr Jha said it was a massive success since the police teams of the three districts of East Siang, West Siang and Siang were on the chase. “After a night long search operation and with coordinated efforts of all, the accused has been arrested and will be sent to judicial custody after a detailed interrogation. We have got enough evidence against him to prove the case and get him convicted for the highest punishment in the court of law,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Tutem Ao Welfare Society (TAWS) has praised the police team for arresting the accused.
