KOLKATA, Dec 13:The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) conducted field activities November 8 – December 13 in search of unaccounted-for Americans from World War II.  The team investigated a site associated with a B-24J bomber loss involving 12 Americans that crashed in January 1944.  The evidence that the team recovered will be reviewed by the Anthropological Survey of India (AnSI) in cooperation with DPAA.

This recovery concluded DPAA’s eighth mission in India relating to U.S. unaccounted-for personnel.  The Government of India, AnSI and the Indian Air Force play a critical role in the recovery missions the U.S. conducts in India.

DPAA’s mission is to provide the fullest possible accounting for U.S. missing personnel to their families and the nation.  DPAA maintains a historical list of U.S. service members accounted for since 2007 on its website.

The investigations often are conducted in remote regions which require the team’s focus and attention to maintain a safe operating environment and to ensure sites remains as undisturbed as possible
